Early voting complaint against Hall County deemed 'unfounded'

The Hall County Elections Director has told her local elections board that a complaint levied against the office during early voting has been declared 'unfounded.'

 

During the first week of advance voting for the General Election, the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO) claimed voter intimidation when a county marshal approached a voter and a translator who were discussing the ballot in the voting line at the Hall County Government Center.

 

Local elections officials told AccessWDUN at the time of the reported incident, the marshal was following Georgia Election Code, which prohibits discussion of ballot items while in line. 

 

"On 10/17/2018 there was a complaint filed with the Secretary of State’s office claiming there was an issue involving a voter/translator discussing the ballot while waiting in line to vote. The SOS Investigative staff has notified this office that it was an unfounded complaint and no case was opened," Lori Wurtz wrote in her statement to the Hall County Board of Elections.

 

Tom Smiley, the Chairman of the Hall County Board of Elections, released the statement publicly on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
