Businessman Matt Dubnik has won re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives, representing the city of Gainesville.
Dubnik held off a challenge from retired physician Nancy Stead, who ran as an Independent for the District 29 seat.
Speaking from Athens, where he attended the gathering with GOP gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp and other Republicans, Dubnik said he was not surprised GOP voters showed up at the polls.
"What we've seen further strengthens and enhances our race here and then our district - it's very much a Republican stronghold," Dubnik said.
Dubnik said he's already thinking about what he wants to do in his second term, especially when it comes to helping constituents who live in more rural areas.
"I really want to work on some rural proposals - everything from infrastructure, broadband in those rural areas, health care," Dubnik said.
Unofficial results showed Dubnik with 68.47-percent of the vote to Stead's 31.13-percent.
Meanwhile, Republican State Rep. Emory Dunahoo easily defeated his Democratic challenger Alana Watkins in Tuesday's election. Dunahoo has represented House District 30 since 2012. Dunahoo was not available for comment late Tuesday night.
