Clarkesville continues interviews for replacement DDA/Main Street director

CLARKESVILLE — Clarkesville City Manager Barbara Kesler said she has narrowed the field of potential candidates for the city’s Downtown Development Authority/Main Street director to four.

Kesler told the city council Monday night she had narrowed the field of applicants and will work with others to further identify the best fit for the position.

“We got some great resumes and I did some initial telephone interviews today and so now I’m ready to move forward with a pool of four candidates at this point to send to the interview committee,” Kesler told AccessWDUN at the conclusion of Monday night’s meeting.

That interview committee consists of Kesler, Mayor Barrie Aycock, DDA Chair Joey Duncan and DDA Board Member Brenda Speed.

“Hopefully we’ll be scheduling in-person interviews with them sometime in the next week or two weeks,” Kesler said. “Then once we get through those interviews, narrowing it down to our final candidates and hopefully making an offer and seeing if that works out. If it does, then go through the process and hopefully have someone in that position in early January.”

The successful candidate will replace former DDA/Main Street Director Mary Beth Horton, who resigned earlier this year to take the job as president of the Habersham Chamber of Commerce.

Clarkesville City Manager Barbara Kesler, left, says she has narrowed the pool of applicants for Downtown Development Authority/Main Street director to four, and in-person interviews with the selection committee should be held soon.
