Man suspected of Sugar Hill credit card theft arrested in Conyers

The man Gwinnett Police believe stole a credit card from a vehicle in Sugar Hill, charging more than $1,700 in the process, has been arrested in Conyers.

Joseph Robert Proctor, 38, of Chattanooga, Tenn. allegedly stole the card Sept. 26 outside the L.A. Fitness on Cumming Highway, then used it at two Wal-Mart stories in Gwinnett County, police said.

Proctor had warrants out for his arrest in Tennessee and Alabama.

A Conyers Police officer spotted Proctor's vehicle, which had been the subject of media reports, outside a hotel Thursday, and Proctor allegedly attempted to flee as the officer approached.

He was taken into custody a short time later. Gwinnett Police have not immediately said what charges Proctor faces in their jurisidiction.
