GAINESVILLE – Gainesville’s Director of Water Resources told the City Council at their work session Thursday morning that the city had no reports of storm related damage caused by the passing of Hurricane / Tropical Storm Michael.
While many area residents kept an anxious eye on the path of the massive storm, the danger has now passed and activity is returning to normal.
Linda MacGregor said, “We have no outages, no damage, nothing on emergency generators this morning. Michael was not too tough on us.”
City Manager Bryan Lackey mentioned that the crane operators working on the city’s parking deck stopped work Wednesday around noon in anticipation of high winds and heavy rains associated with Michael.
“They’re back working this morning, I was surprised. I thought they’d be down all day today but the crane is back up and I saw them welding this morning,” Lackey told council members.
MacGregor shared what she termed “fun facts” with the council about the parking deck project.
“Metromont is the company that has done the prefabricating…and they‘re in Dallas, Georgia,” MacGregor said of the company that is constructing the parking deck components nearly 80-miles away. “So those pieces are being built in Dallas and then transported here, and there’s over 180 pieces that are being put together.”
“And the crane is 330 tons,” MacGregor.
