TOCCOA – A Stephens County man remained in critical condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Wednesday afternoon following a wreck late Tuesday night.

Samuel Lee Castillo, 26, of Toccoa suffered head injuries when the 2004 Subaru Impreza Outback he was driving went out of control on Ga. 106 (Mize Road) in Toccoa about 11:45 p.m., according to Sr. Trooper John Crawford of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.

At the time of the wreck, the vehicle was traveling south on Ga. 106 around a left curve. The vehicle crossed the center turn lane and northbound lane, striking a retaining wall in front of 1633 Highway 106.

Castillo was taken by ambulance for treatment of a “very critical” head injury, according to Crawford.

Crawford said Castillo was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, and that airbags in the car deployed.

Alcohol is suspected, Crawford said.
