ATHENS — Longtime Georgia sideline reporter and radio commentator Loran Smith was hospitalized after being struck by two players while attending a Bulldogs football practice.

The school says two players ran out of bounds on a special teams play and collided with Smith on Monday.

Smith had hip surgery at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. He's expected to be released from the hospital by Thursday.

Smith is best known as a sideline reporter for Larry Munson's calls of Georgia football. He still works on the pregame radio show and in other roles for the Athletic Association.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart says he didn't see the play but calls it "a tough deal" for Smith.
