ATHENS — Jamerius Isaac picked off a Cedar Shoals pass on the second play of the game and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown to spark Class A No. 3 Buford to a 55-6 rout of the Jaguars in Region 8-5A action on the road.

It was the first battle of unbeatens in region play. Buford (5-2, 2-0 Region 8-5A) took sole possession of first place as the Jaguars (4-3, 1-1) fell into a three-way tie for second place with Clarke Central (4-3, 1-1) and Loganville (3-4, 1-1). The Gladiators held off the Red Devils 8-3 Friday night.

The Wolves defense also scored on a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Tommy Beuealls. They held Cedar Shoals to 120 total yards and just 8 yards passing.

Meanwhile, the offense got a big night from quarterback Aaron McLaughlin, who was 11 of 17 for 237 yards and two touchdowns passing. Tee Lee caught a 46-yard scoring pass and Austin Turner had an 8-yard TD catch.

Buford led 21-0 by the end of the first quarter and 41-6 by halftime.

The Wolves travel to Loganville next week.
