STATHAM – A house well back into a wooded area in Barrow County was totally destroyed Sunday evening.

Barrow County EMS spokesman Captain Scott Dakin said reports of smoke and a possible woods fire came in around 7 p.m.  Dakin said that the 911 caller pinpointed the location as the 1200 block of Bethlehem Road in Statham.

Dakin said that a responding unit reported before arriving at the scene that the amount of smoke coming from the address was likely more than just a woods or brush fire, so additional units were dispatched.

Firefighters eventually discovered a house well off the road that was fully involved with flames.

Dakin said one unnamed individual was transported from the scene to an area hospital with injuries as a result of the fire. In addition, a firefighter required treatment which was administered at the scene.

The home was completely destroyed according to Dakin; the cause of the fire is under investigation.
