While there aren't any immediate plans for a brewery to set up shop in Suwanee, city officials have updated the city's ordinances to accommodate one in the future.
City council adopted a pair of updates Tuesday night, paving the way for future development, should a brewery decide to open in town.
"We're getting inquiries from individuals interested in breweries," said Marty Allen, city manager.
"We wanted to be proactive and make accommodations to reflect ... changes (to state law)."
In 2017, a new state law went into effect allowing breweries to sell their products directly to consumers, without having to use a middle man, or to bundle the beer with a brewery tour.
Since the law went into effect, Allen said the city has received "quite a number" of inquiries, though no immediate plans are in the works for a brewer to come to town.
"We get inquiries routinely," said Allen.
The updates (one each to the city's zoning ordinance and alcohol code) are meant to accommodate both a "front door" business that operates a taproom or bar area and "back door" business that simply brews beer and distributes it.
As to where a brewery might be able to set up, Allen said really any part of town could be on the table. It just depends on the style of business the developer might want to run.
