Parents of students who attend Gainesville city schools will have a chance to look at plans for the district's proposed attendance zones and clusters for the 2018-19 school year at two upcoming meetings.

The Gainesville School System is a system of choice, but the ability for parents to choose schools has left some elementary schools overcrowded. Earlier this month, Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Williams told Gainesville School Board members that attendance zones and clusters would need to be tweaked to alleviate the overcrowding.

Williams said school officials will present a plan at the two meetings that impacts the fewest students.

"In our attendance zone rezoning, we're only talking about 12-percent or less of our K-5 population being impacted," Williams told AccessWDUN at a Jan. 3 board meeting.

The first meeting for parents and student guardians is set for Thursday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. at Gainesville Exploration Academy at 1145 McEver Road. The second meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. at Centennial Arts Academy at 852 Century Place.

District officials will be at each meeting to answer questions.
