LULA — Lula officials are continuing to weigh the best course of action for providing sewer to Ga. 365 and other parts of its service delivery area.
During a two-hour called work session Thursday, councilmen were vocal, though not unanimous, with their thoughts of the best course of action for the city.
Councilman Vince Evans said the city should do the portion of the line from the wastewater treatment plant until the line crosses Ga. 365 to the northbound side, saying that’s what funding will allow right now. That section comprises about one-fourth of the total proposed sewer line.
City Manager Dennis Bergin presented several options for using funds already in city coffers to help offset the cost of the $1.4-million total project, saying the city has $716,000 available that could be used without affecting cashflow, though he recommended keeping about $200,000 for unanticipated circumstances.
Councilmen Mordecai Wilson and Lamb Griffin were vocal in saying now is the time for the city to prepare its infrastructure for the coming development.
A vote on the matter could come as early as the council's next meeting, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16.
