ELBERTON — Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews has released information about the three individuals charged in connection with the shooting death of Otha Perrin, 86, of Elbert County.

Midday Wednesday, Andrews announced that William David Peterson, 19, of Athens, and Savanna Marie Jennings, 19, of Elbert County both were charged Wednesday with murder, felony murder, malice murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another.

Peterson also is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Dakota Scott Street, 18, of Elbert County is charged with concealing the death of another.

Perrin died of multiple gunshot wounds. He was the grandfather of Jennings, and also lived at the Pearl Mill Road address where she lives.

According to Andrews, Jennings went to the Elbert County Detention Center Sunday morning to report Perrin missing. On Monday, another family member went to the sheriff’s office and reported their suspicions that there was something not right about the missing person case.

During further questioning, investigators said Jennings eventually broke down and admitted she had been deceitful in her answers, according to Andrews.

Perrin’s body was recovered Monday from a farm pond on private property off Wahatchee Creek Road by Elbert County EMS and Dive Team, according to Andrews. A .22-caliber rifle was located near the pond on private farm property where Perrin’s body was recovered.

Peterson, Jennings and Street are being held in the Elbert County Detention Center pending a first appearance bond hearing, according to Andrews.

Andrews said the case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, Elbert County Coroner’s Office and Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

Andrews credited Elbert County Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Medical Services and Dive Team, along with Athens-Clarke County Police Department and the Georgia State Probation Office for their assistance.
