DAWSONVILLE — The Dawson County boys basketball left it late, but the Tigers did not leave anything on the floor on Tuesday night, as they surged to a 48-45 win over Union County in Dawsonville.

Dawson County turned up the heat over the final 2:45, going on a 12-2 run to seal a region win.

"It was like a roller-coaster ride at Six Flags tonight; it was up and down," Tigers coach Chad Pittman said. "And, really, that's been only my frustration with this team. When we play hard and we play together we play really good, and we showed that last week in wins over North Hall and East Hall. Tonight it was kind of a grind for both teams, but we were able to find enough defense and make enough shots at the end to win. But I'm looking for is more consistency from everybody."

Trey Pruitt scored 12 points, including the game-tying 3-pointer and the game-winning bucket for the Tigers (13-4, 5-0 Region 7-AAA). Meanwhile Cullen Reed also scored 12 and grabbed 6 rebounds, and Jeremiah Crumley chipped in with 9 points and 6 rebounds.

"We've never had to worry about team chemistry," Pittman said. "They've all played together since they were little. January's the long grind. It's all region games from here on out, and hopefully it's preparing us well for the postseason."

Pierson Allison paced the Panthers (13-3, 3-2) with 12 points, while Crawford Colwell added 11 and Patrick Baggett 9.

The two foes battled to a 12-12 first quarter tie, and Dawson led just 27-25 at the half. Union County inched ahead 38-37 after three quarters.

Union County will play host to Fannin County on Friday.
