MARIETTA — Longtime Buford softball coach and now assistant athletic director Tony Wolfe will be inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Wolfe took over the program in 2007 and went on to win 10 consecutive state titles. The Lady Wolves' title streak ended in 2017 as they were ousted in the semifinals and finished third in Class AAAAA.
Wolfe said he is appreciative of the award but called it more of a reflection on the program than just one person.
"It's always nice to be recognized but this is really more about the program, the coaches and players that have all been a part of it," he said Tuesday afternoon. "I have had the best coaching staff in the state and they are why we have been so successful. You don't have success without great players and we've been blessed to have a lot of great players come through here. This more about them than me, really."
Buford's title streak is among the best of any team-oriented sport in the state's history, and is the girls fastpitch softball record to date.
"There's been a lot of great teams in a lot of sports so it's hard to measure a streak like that," he said. "We've been fortunate. Hopefully can get another one started next year."
