Boys basketball: Lakeview, Jefferson stay perfect in region play; Branch falls to Clarke Central

TALLULAH FALLS — The Lakview Academy boys set themselves up for a huge first-place showdown in Region 8-A with a 76-60 road win over Tallulah Falls Friday night.

The victory moves the Lions to 7-5 overall and a perfect 4-0 in region play. They will play host to Prince Avenue Christian (7-5, 3-0) on Saturday with the top spot at stake.

Blake McIntyre continued his breakout season recording a double-double with 20 points and 11 assists to lead Lakeview. Adam Cottrell added 17 points and Arturo Varela 14 points for the Lions, who have been without leading scorer Drew Cottrell for the past four games.

 

JEFFERSON BOYS 67,
NORTH OCONEE 51

Jefferson ran its unbeaten streak to three straight with a Region 8-AAAA win in Bogart Friday night.

With the victory the Dragons (10-6, 2-0 Region 8-AAAA) also kept pace with Oconee County and St. Pius atop the region standings. They can take early control of the region next week when they play host first to Oconee County on Tuesday and then to St. Pius next Friday at The Arena.

Sophomores Jasper Gibson (18 points) and Donsha Gaither (17 points) combined for more than half of the Dragons offense. Another sophomore, Jacob Radaker, added 11 points while junior A.J. Wells had 8 points for Jefferson.

 

UNION COUNTY BOYS 76,
LUMPKIN COUNTY 54

The Panthers took a big Region 7-AAA win Friday night at home but it came with a price.

Leading scorer and rebounder, sophomore Sawyer Drake, was putting together a big night with 12 points in the first quarter was forced to leave with an undisclosed injury and did not return.

Senior Crawford Colwell finished with 21 points to pace Union County. Sophomore Pierson Allison had 11 for the Panthers (12-2, 3-1 Region 7-AAA) who is tied for second with East Hall in the region standings.

Union County will travel to Andrews (N.C.) on Saturday.

 

CLARKE CENTRAL BOYS 53,
FLOWERY BRANCH 45

Flowery Branch got 18 points from Justin Quick and 11 from Joey Nidoy but it wasn't enough to overtake the Gladiators in a Region 8-AAAAA matchup on the road.

The Falcons (10-6, 2-2 Region 8-AAAAA) dropped to fourth place in the standings with the loss and will play host to Winder Barrow on Saturday in a non-region game.
