A memorial service will be held Saturday for Jean Gruhn, who along with her late husband, Bobby, was a longtime fixture at Gainesville High School, where both served as a teacher and a coach.

Jean Gruhn died Tuesday at the age of 86.

She taught at Gainesville High for 30 years and also served as girls physical education teacher, as well as the girls cheerleading, tennis, and basketball coach, her career paralleling that of her husband, the highly successful GHS football coach.  She was awarded many accolades, according to her obituary, including Star Teacher and Coach of the Year.  Gruhn was also credited with commissioning the GHS "Rock” near the school.   (The city school system will mark The Rock's 50th anniversary as a GHS landmark next month.)

The memorial service will be Saturday at 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow.  A private family graveside will be held at Alta Vista Cemetery.
