Lula looking at improvements needed for possible retail establishment, job creation

LULA — The Lula City Council is gathering information about what would be required to secure an unspecified retail development on the corner of Belton Bridge Road and Ga. 365.

“At this time, we do have some retail that’s looking at the corner of 365 and Belton Bridge Road, employing about 30 employees at this time, but nothing’s in concrete,” Mayor Milton Turner said following Monday night’s council meeting.

During that meeting, City Manager Dennis Bergin said it would cost an estimated $83,000 to extend sewer to the property, and hopefully less than $10,000 to extend water to that location.

“We’re looking at extending our water and sewer, and then of course it would take one main sewer line to get to our sewer plant,” Turner said. “That one was already in the works a little bit, and then we’d have to run it up to that property for another sewer line.”

No decision on extending service was made during Monday’s council meeting, and Turner said city officials can’t discuss specifics of the developer or proposed development at this time.

Members of the Lula City Council look over figures provided by City Manager Dennis Bergin regarding extension of water and sewer service to serve a potential retail development on the corner of Belton Bridge Road and Ga. 365.
