Hall County's first fire chief dies at 72

Larry Williams, who was the chief of the Hall County Fire Department, died Thursday at his home in Maysville.

Williams also served a chief of the Smyrna Fire Department for 20 years.  He was chief in Hall County from 1971-1979. 

According to Zach Brackett, spokesman for the Hall County department, Chief Williams served with the Gainesville Fire Department before being hired as the Chief of the newly formed Hall County Fire Department. He left Hall County and became a program specialist for the Georgia Fire Academy in Marietta before becoming Chief of the Smyrna Fire Department

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 at The Chantry at The Grove with interment  in The Grove Cemetery. 

Little-Ward Funeral Home in Commerce is in charge of arrangements.
