Each week Brandon Reed, editor of the Around the Track page and race historian, and Katie B. Davis discuss the latest happenings in the world of motorsports.

In the Sept. 14 edition of the Hard Left Turn podcast (delayed recording because of Tropical Storm Irma), Brandon and Katie B. look ahead to Chicagoland Speedway and the first race of the playoffs, but also weigh in on Danica Patrick's future in the sport and all the bridges Smithfield burned by essentially calling Richard Petty a liar.

Beginning of the show: A discussion of Danica Patrick's future in NASCAR in the aftermath of her announcement via Facebook that her time with Stewart-Haas Racing "had come to an end" due to new sponsorship arrangement for the team next season. What made Patrick so popular (and Brandon and Katie B. mince no words) and what about the future of female drivers in the sport?

14-minute mark: Don't mess with the King: Smithfield Foods said it will leave Richard Petty Motorsports to become a primary sponsor at Stewart-Haas next year, but that's not where the news stopped. Brandon and Katie B. talk about Petty's reaction to the news and the petty comments by Smithfield in the aftermath.

22-minute mark: Dawsonville-native Chase Elliott is in the playoffs, what's the key to success?

25-minute mark: Martin Truex Jr. goes into this weekend's race with a 53-point advantage, does Brandon see him proverbially cruising or will he work to maintain momentum toward the Monster Energy Cup Series title?

27-minute mark: Should race-winning drivers who fail post-race inspection have their wins revoked?

You can listen to the upcoming race at Chicagoland Speedway, and all other Xfinity and Monster Energy Cup races, on AM550 and FM102.9 WDUN and streaming on AccessWDUN.
