Softball: East Hall sweeps past Oconee, Monroe Area; Stephens drops pair; Branch splits

The East Hall softball team pulled off a back-and-forth, 7-5 win over Oconee County and a 6-1 win over Monroe Area on Saturday.

The Lady Vikings took the lead for good in the fifth inning of the win over Oconee. With one out in the bottom of the fifth Kaitlyn Daniel singled and drove in one run. 

Macy Banks earned the win for East Hall, pitching five innings, while giving up five runs, six hits, striking out one, and walking one. 

The Lady Vikings collected nine hits. Banks, Kaitlyn Daniel, and Carley Cox each collected multiple hits for East Hall Vikings Varsity. Daniel and Abigail Brown (home run and sac fly) each drove in three runs. 

East Hall jumped out to an early lead over Monroe Area thanks to a single by Steffanie Redmon and a triple by Abigail Brown in the first inning. 

Redmon earned the win, allowing one run, four hits, striking out five, and walking one. 

Brown went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead East Hall Vikings Varsity in hits. And Kaitlyn Daniel had a solo home run in the third.


STEPHENS COUNTY DROPS PAIR OF 1-0 GAMES

The Lady Indians dropped a 1-0 walkoff contest to Tattnall Square and also fell 1-0 to Ola on Saturday.

Tattnall Square broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh. Stephens County 's Emma Whitfield struck out eight Tattnall batters. 

Tyra Hunter, Kayley Sellers, Mackenzie Rogers, Bailey Dobbs, and Whitfield all had one hit to lead Stephens County at the plate.

Both Ola and Stephens put up strong pitching performances. Whitfield started the game for the Lady Indians and recorded 10 outs. Whitfield left the game with no score and five strikeouts. Mackenzie Rogers came in relief with no score after 3 1/3 and completed the game. 

Sellers and Kasey Westmoreland each collected one hit to lead Stephens at the plate.


BRANCH SPLITS GAMES AT TOURNEY

The Lady Falcons traveled to the Carrollton tournament on Saturday and defeated Heard County and Chattooga while falling to Alexander and Breman.  

The Lady Falcons are in action again this week with Buford, Walnut Grove and Lumpkin County.
