Gainesville man travels to Key West to save aunt from Irma

Jupiter, Florida - As thousands of people are scrambling to get out of Florida in preparation for hurricane Irma, a Gainesville man drove to Key West to get his aunt out of harm's way.

Marc Greenberg left earlier this week and drove to the Keys. He says, however, he is having to return up I-95 instead of the more direct route, I-75.

"Traffic was so bad to get to 75 on the Turnpike," Greenberg said. "We were actually on the Turnpike to get to 75, but the traffic was just tremendous."

Greenberg says even going up the East coast of Florida, it took more than eight hours to get from Key West to Jupiter, just north of Miami.
This latest photo from NOAA shows the likely path of Hurricane Irma as the storm approaches Florida.
