AMS opens campground to Irma refugees

Posted 12:00AM on Thursday 7th September 2017 ( 6 years ago )
Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton is opening its camping area free of charge to evacuees of Hurricane Irma.

Track spokesman Dustin Bixby tells AccessWDUN there is plenty of room to give refuge to those evacuating Florida.

He says the track offered refuge during Hurricane Matthew but expects the need is much greater this time around.

Bixby says the racetrack is unique in its ability to handle a high volume of people.

When there is a NASCAR event, the track easily accomodates more than 100,000 people. Bixby adds the track will also open the Rinnai Shower Station which will give the evacuees access to hot showers and restroom facilities.
