Lady Bears win 1-0 against West Virginia Tech

CLEVELAND — The Lady Bears' won their second consecutive match of the season defeating the Lady Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech 1-0 on Tuesday. West Virginia Tech came into the match undefeated and beat their previous opponent 7-1. TMU looked to build upon a victory in their last contest, and the match proved to be close contest between the two squads.

Neither team was successful in scoring in the first period, but each team had some chances. West Virginia was able to attempt one shot in the half which was saved by TMU GK Ashlyn Walloch. TMU attempted more shots than their opponent, and both shots that were on target came from Megan McCall, but the Lady Bears GK was able to save both as well.

The Lady Bears of TMU turned on the pressure in the second half, and which would lead to the game-deciding goal. About midway through the period, TMU was awarded a PK and Susanna Peppers converted the opportunity giving her team a 1-0 lead. TMU would hold on to the lead do to fine play from their defense, limiting their opponent to only two more shots throughout the rest of the match.

Coach David McDowell was pleased with his team's play, not concerning this game but throughout the whole weekend. ""It's always tough to play 2 games in 3 days but the girls did great again in getting the result," said McDowell. "This is a young team so to grind out two results like we did says a lot about our character."

The Lady Bears' next match will be at home on September 8th at 5pm against Ave Maria.
