Hall County authorities on Tuesday identified the man who drowned in Lake Lanier on Labor Day as Quincy Larae Finch, 35, of Gainesville.

Divers spent more than three hours Monday afternoon searching for Finch after he went under while swimming with his girlfriend in a cove near Gainesville Marina off Dawsonville Highway.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said 911 received a call around 3:15 p.m., reporting that the victim had become distressed while swimming and disappeared beneath the surface.

His body was recovered around 6:34 p.m. 40-yards from shore in 16 feet of water, according to Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Stephen Wilbanks..

Finch's body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for autopsy.

Finch's drowning was the second deadly incident in Lake Lanier over the holiday weekend. A 21-year-old Suwanee man drowned at East Bank Park in Buford on Friday evening.
