DANIELSVILLE — For a second straight week the Jackson County defense showed it will be force when Region 8-AAA play gets under way.

The Panthers defense used a goalline stand to close out the first half and then held the Red Raiders scoreless in the second half to preserve a narrow 12-6 victory Friday night on the road.

Jackson County (2-0) got a 73-yard touchdown pass from Grey Aikens to Chad Pittman in the first quarter and a pair of Evan Mershon field goals (35 and 40 yards) in the second quarter.

Madison County looked posied to grab the lead late in the first half but the Panthers stuffed the Red Raiders at the Jackson County 1 as time expired to end the first half. That play loomed large as neiter team cracked the scoreboard after halftime.

The Panthers will play host to Lumpkin County next week.
