GAINESVILLE -- The Hall County Planning Commission recommended to rezone a piece of property on Crescent Drive in the New Holland area for highway business at their meeting Monday evening.

The property's owner, Carolyn Anne Ray, asked the county to rezone the property to highway business from it's current agricultural-residential designation because she said she wanted to potentially sell it to a business owner in the future.

The more than two acre property sits on the east side of Crescent Drive near Jesse Jewel Parkway and is just south of the city limits of Gainesville, bordering the city's juvenile justice building. Planning Commission Chairman Don Smallwood said he felt the rezoning would fit the direction of that area.

"I don't see anything wrong with what she's asking," Smallwood said. "Everything out there, just about, has gone commercial. That's the last piece on that side (of Crescent Drive) before you get to the city's building."

The planning commission voted unanimously to recommend the rezoning.

Ray said she did not have any offers for the property so far. The Hall County Commission will give the rezoning a final vote at their September 14 meeting.
