Qualifying begins Monday for Nov. city elections across Georgia

The dust has hardly settled from last year's elections but Georgia is fast approaching another election day.

November 7 is the date set aside for municipal elections in the state this year.  Officialy, its an election off-year, meaning no national or statewide offices are up for grabs.  But, that's not true of hundreds of local posts around Georgia, mostly for mayor, city council, and city school board.

Qualifying for these elections begins Monday.  The closing dates vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.  The deadline is Wednesday in some places, Friday in others.

In Hall County. 28 seats will be at stake:

*Buford (portions of which are also in Gwinnett County):

City Commission Post 2 - Chris Burge

City Commission Post 3 - Michael Smith

School Board - Bruce Fricks

School Board - Pat Pirkle

*Braselton (portions of which are also in Jackson, Barrow and Gwinnett counties)

Mayor - Bill Orr

District 2 City Council - Peggy Slappey

District 4 City Council - Rhonda Sites

*Lula (portions of which are in Banks County)

Mayor - Milton Turner

Post 2 City Council - Marvin Moore

Post 3 City Council - Mordecai Wilson

*Gillsville

Mayor - Larry Poole

Council Post 1 - Roy Turpin

Council Post 2 - Vacant

*Gainesville

Mayor - Danny Dunagan

City Council Ward 1 - Sam Couvillon

City Council Ward 4 - George Wangemann

School Board District 1 - Brett Mercer

School Board District 4 - Delores Diaz

*Oakwood
