A Hall County jury has handed down a guilty verdict to the man accused in a fatal shooting at Tadmore Park on Father's Day 2013.

Saul Mendez Castillo, who was 41 at the time of the murder,  will spend life in prison with no chance of parole for the murder of Silverio Acosta, according to Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh.

Darragh confirmed the Thursday verdict and sentence via email.

In August 2015, Castillo entered a guilty plea to murder charges in the case, but he was allowed to withdraw that plea and get a new trial after his attorney told the court he found evidence his client suffered from mental illness.

Castillo opened fire at a soccer game at Tadmore Park on June 16, 2013, striking Acosta several times. Castillo had claimed his father was killed by Acosta when the two families had lived in El Salvador more than three decades ago.

The trial took place this week in Hall County Superior Court.
