Gainesville's new Main Street Manager, announced Thursday, comes from another city department.

City Manager Bryan Lackey said Kristen Howard received the nod.

"Kristen's previous experience with community outreach as the City's Water Conservation Specialist and her work in the community made her the right candidate for this position," Lackey said in a news release from the city.

Howard, a Gainesville native and University of North Georgia graduate, will replace Regina Dyer who was named Gainesville Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager in May.

"I am looking forward to working with the merchants and the City of Gainesville to increase economic development activity in the downtown commercial district," Howard said in the release.  "I am especially excited to see downtown thrive with the addition of new housing and retail opportunities on the fourth side of the square and streetscaping on Bradford and Washington Streets."
