KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Kres VanDyke swept both twin NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car features Saturday night at Tennessee's Kingsport Speedway.

Through 14 races at “The Concrete Jungle” in 2017, the Abingdon, Virginia driver has nine wins, four second-place finishes, and one third-place effort, setting him firmly atop the points standings.

Lee Pulliam was quick in practice and was fastest at 15.008 seconds in qualifying. However, his time was disallowed in tech when car was too low following his run. Having the option to make corrections and start the first race from back of the field, Pulliam instead chose to load up and not race.

Zeke Shell grabbed lead at start of the first Late Model Stock Car feature, but just three laps in the red flag waved when Marty Tunnell slammed the outside wall around turns one and two after his throttle had hung wide open at end of the straightaway. The race was back under green for only five more laps before the caution when Duke Bare spun in the second corner.

On the ensuing restart, Shell once again powered back out ahead over Nik Williams, VanDyke, Ronnie McCarty and Wayne Hale. Robbie Ferguson passed Joey Trent for the sixth spot on lap 10 between turns three and four, while at the same time just ahead of them VanDyke was overtaking Williams for second in the running order.

VanDyke immediately closed to Shell’s back bumper to mount a challenge for the lead. Racing off the fourth turn on lap 14 he pulled alongside Shell, and made the move to the lead off turn two.

VanDyke went on from there to score the win. Shell was flagged second, but failed post race tech at the end of the night, moving Williams to second, McCarty to third, Ferguson to fourth and Hale to fifth.

Trent, Bare, Derek Lane, Darin Silver and Billy Light rounded out the top ten.

The top eight finishers from the first race were inverted for the second feature, putting Bare and Trent on the front row. On the first attempt to start the race, Shell got into the back of McCarty to sustain front-end damage, bringing the caution out before the opening lap was complete.

The next try to get the race under green saw Trent take the lead over Bare, Hale, Ferguson and McCarty. Bare quickly began losing positions as he dropped out of the top five, with VanDyke and Williams also getting around him in the opening laps.

Ferguson passed Hale for second on lap five, which opened the door for both McCarty and VanDyke to also overtake Hale.

VanDyke began pressuring defending McCarty for third, taking the spot on lap 10 he gained the position. Closing in behind Ferguson, VanDyke moved to second place on lap 15.

VanDyke set his sights ahead on Trent, but each time Trent managed to slam the door shut on VanDyke’s advances.

VanDyke pulled to inside of Trent racing off the fourth turn on lap 25 and over the next three laps they raced side-by-side before VanDyke moved ahead into the lead. VanDyke went on from there to take the win, with Trent in second, McCarty in third, Ferguson in fourth and Williams in fifth.

Lane, Hale, Bare, Billy Light and Silver rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Jason Leatherwood took the Modified Street feature, with Trey Lane in second, Royce Peters in third, Kevin Wolfe in fourth and Rusty Clendenin in fifth.

Keith Helton took the win in the Pure 4 feature, with Billy Byington in second, Jason Ketron in third, Chad Jeffers in fourth and Larry Stapleton in fifth.

Joshua Gobble scored the victory in the Mod-4 feature, with Kirby Gobble finishing in second, followed by Dennis Arnold in third, Billy Duty in fourth and Chris Amburgey in fifth.

Dustin Smith was flagged the winner of the Pure Street feature, with Will Vannoy in second. Both cars did not pass post-race technical inspection, giving Bobby Durbin first ever victory. Ryan Hyatt, Anitra Little, Jeremy Draughn and Jamie Meadows rounded out the top five.
