GAINESVILLE - Jackson EMC says problems Saturday morning at a couple of their power substations resulted in as many as 2872 customers being without service in northwestern Hall County.

Jackson EMC spokeswoman April Sorrow told AccessWDUN, "Earlier today both our Bark Camp and Leach Road substations were experiencing some outages."

Sorrow said Leach Road was back online by 1:00 p.m., "but Bark Camp is still out, and we have a little over 2,000 members that are still experiencing outages."

"The State Patrol reported a fire around our Bark camp substation. We have not confirmed that," Sorrow replied, "but we have crews enroute to that substation now."

Sorrow's comments were made are 1:15 Saturday afternoon. An hour later she said crews discovered that a lightning protective device called an "arrester" had tripped and generated a lot of smoke, but no flames

Regarding the problem at the Leach Road substation Sorrow said, "I don't know specifically what the problem was there, especially with it being a clear day. It could have been an animal. Very often animals get curious and can cause outages."
