TOCCOA — Toccoa police are hoping additional witnesses to a Tuesday night shooting will come forward to help them solve the case.

“Tuesday evening at 9:57 p.m., the Toccoa Police Department received a call of someone being shot at Cambridge Apartments on Pond Street here in Toccoa,” Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said in a news conference Wednesday morning. “When we arrived, we found a white male who had been shot in the lower leg area.”

The shooting followed a dispute between property management and a couple of individuals.

“Witnesses advised us that two black males were crossing the parking lot, and were confronted by the property owner, or the property management, and a heated argument began,” Jarrell said. “As the two black males went to walk away and leave the property, one of them produced a handgun.”

There were several people in the parking lot of the apartment complex at the time.

“According to witnesses, he then shot into the air, with his last shot being toward the victim, who was standing with some other individuals in the parking lot,” Jarrell said.

The 42-year-old white male victim was treated at Stephens County Hospital and released, Jarrell said.

“At this point, we’re still attempting to locate additional witnesses,” Jarrell said. “We do have some names of some potential suspects. We’re not ready to release those at this time.”

Jarrell declined to release additional details due to the ongoing investigation.
