Two people were stranded on top of their car for a short time Monday after their vehicle ran off the road and crashed into a creek off Sandy Flats Road in White County.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene around 2 p.m. and utilized a rescue raft to retrieve the victims.

The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle when he left the paved section of the road and traveled onto the loose gravel surface, according to law enforcement reports. The vehicle then completely left the roadway and flipped over a couple of times before coming to rest in the creek.  The male and female occupants were able to get out of the vehicle and on top of it.

Both victims were checked out by medical personnel at the scene, but they were not transported to the hospital.
