Gainesville's Hogan in contention Junior Grand Championship

CANTON — Gainesville High golfer Ryan Hogan blistered the course on day one of the Georgia Junior Golf Grand Championship at Woodmont in Canton on Monday. 

Hogan fired a 4-under-par 68 to take a five stroke lead in the boys 15-18-year-old grouping. Flowery Branch's Connor Gillespie, meanwhile, was tied for 19th after firing a 78.

In the boys 13-14 division, Gainesville's Sam Patterson carded a 77 to finish the day tied for third, three shots back.

And, in the girls 12-and-over division, Gainesville's Morgan Nichol fired an 89 to finish tied for eighth.

Play continues at the tournament on Tuesday in Canton.
