Hall County officials announced Thursday that a pivotal intersection near Chestatee High School will remain open while crews convert it to a roundabout.

The anticipated roundabout is at the Sardis Road and Ledan Extension intersection.

County officials had said Wednesday the intersection would be closed July 31.

"After evaluating all options, we have worked with the contractor to make sure two lanes of traffic remain open throughout the construction project," District 2 Hall County Commissioner Billy Powell said in a media release.

Powell said the contractor assured the county that if a closure is required, it will happen only between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Right of way issues delayed the start of the work, which was originally scheduled to be completed while school was out this summer, according to county public information officer Katie Crumley.

Officials hope the roundabout will alleviate traffic congestion at the intersection.
