Gainesville's Simonton nabs bronze at shotgun National Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Gainesville's Sam Simonton shot her way to a bronze medal in the skeet discipline on Monday at the 2017 USA Shooting National Championships for Shotgun in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Simonton battled her way into a three-way tie for third before claiming a shootoff against fellow standouts Katie Jacob (Rochester, Michigan) and Austen Smith (Keller, Texas). Smith was eliminated in the shootoff before Simonton edged out Jacob, 12-11.

Simonton's performance earned her a spot on the Junior Team for the the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship for Shotgun, which will take place next month in Moscow, Russia.
