Ralph Hudgens will not be seeking re-election as Georgia's Insurance Commissioner, he announced Monday.

Hudgens, from Hull, said in a statement that he looked forward to retirement, and spending more time with his family.

"While I am retiring from elected political office, I intend to stay involved in politics," said Hudgens.

"I enjoyed my time in the State House and State Senate, but I am particularly grateful for the privilege of serving as Georgia’s Insurance Commissioner."

Hudgens has been involved in Georgia politics since 1980, and has served as insurance commissioner since 2010, winning re-election in 2014.

"I will continue to work to protect Georgia consumers and make sure that Georgia remains a competitive place to do the business of insurance," said Hudgens.

His role also included being Georgia's Fire Commissioner and Industrial Loan Commissioner.
