Williams defends City Championship title

GAINESVILLE — Former Gainesville High standout Nathan Williams fired a final round 67 to win the 2017 City Championship at Chattahoochee Golf Course on Sunday.

Williams, the defending Champion from 2016. finished with a 54-hole total was 208, 8-under par to outdistance Matt Elliott by two strokes (210, 6-under). Elliott also shot 67 on the final day. Current Gainesville standout Ryan Hogan charged from the middle of the pack on the final day carding a 70 to take third over another former Gainesville standout Pep Brown, who finished fourth at 2-over 218.

In other action, Jeff Waggoner won the net division of the Championship flight posting a net 212, 4-under par.

Mike Smith shot a second round 78 (150) to win the 1st flight by a five-shot margin over Keith Morris (155). John Wright and Jay Jacobs finished tied at 158, and Wright was awarded third place by a score card playoff.

In the 2nd flight, John Yarger and Will Hicks were tied after 36 holes with 155. Yarger won the flight after the first hole of a sudden death playoff. Jeff Stowe was two shots back in 3rd place.

Steve Hollis claimed the title in the 3rd flight with a 36 hole total of 162. John Payne was two shots back in second place. Chad Pierce was the net winner of the 3rd flight at 138.
