Gainesville City School officials held the first of several community meetings Thursday night to answer questions about the construction of the new Enota Elementary School.

About three dozen people, including school system officials and members of the construction and design teams, showed up for the brief meeting at the Junior League building on Riverside Drive.

Brian Daniel, President of Carroll Daniel Construction, told those in attendance that construction was moving along on schedule, noting that the old school was taken down quickly just as the school year ended. He said the grading phase of the project is almost finished.

"We've got a lot of work to do in a very short window of time," Daniel said. "It looks like chaos out there right now, but I can assure you it's very organized, planned chaos."

Daniel said the next move is to start pouring concrete slabs. He anticipates neighbors will start seeing concrete trucks by the end of the month into November. He said the plan is to be a conscientious as possible with the truck traffic.

"When we have a pour scheduled for the following morning, we'll put a sign out that says 'pour scheduled tomorrow morning.' It'll be out on Enota facing the front of the site near where the existing signage is now," Daniel said.

He noted that most of the concrete pours will take place early in the morning.

Even though construction is already underway, the school system plans a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony for the new Enota on July 27.

The new school building is expected to open to students in time for the 2018-19 school year. Enota students will share the Centennial Elementary School campus for the 2017-18 school year.

Gainesville City School officials have promised two or more additional meetings to keep the community updated on the construction progress.

Grading is almost complete on the construction site for the new Enota Elementary School. The school will sit on the same property the original school occupied for more than 60 years.
