The Jackson County Historic Courthouse and Historic Archives will host a reading and book signing by G. Richard "Dickey" Hoard next month.

This event is set for August 7 at 7 p.m. and will take place at the Historic Courthouse. It is also the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Hoard's father, Solicitor General (the office is now called district attorney) Floyd Hoard.

Dickey Hoard will be reading a selection from his newly published book "The Missing Boys" (a story of murder in a small town) and also from his previous book, "Alone Among the Living: A Memoir of the Floyd Hoard Murder."

Hoard died the morning of August 7, 1967, when a bomb exploded as he started his car to leave home for work.  Five men were eventually convicted of killing Hoard.  He was targeted because of his crusade against lawlessness in Jackson County.

Light refreshments will follow the readings and books will be available for purchase and signing.

Admission is free but reservations are required due to limited seating. To make reservations, call 706-387-7683.
