As family members in Gainesville prepare for her funeral service, police in Dekalb County are trying to find out who shot and killed Tekeila Calloway.

The 35-year-old woman's body was found last Thursday in a creek at the abandoned Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club, according to investigators. Dekalb County police told Fox 5 News they don't know if Calloway was killed at the scene or if she was killed elsewhere and then her body brought to the site.

Calloway's mother, Mary Jones of Gainesville, told Atlanta media her daughter used to live in Dekalb County in the vicinity where her body was found, but recently she had been back home in Gainesville.

Jones has made appeals to both Atlanta and local media, asking to get the word out about her daughter's murder, asking anyone with information on the death to reach out to police.

Jones said Wednesday morning that Calloway was a graduate of Gainesville High School and sang in the choir at St. Paul Methodist Church on Summit Street.

The family is making final funeral arrangements for Calloway with Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville.
