Georgia Department of Transportation officials plan to kick off a resurfacing project along a major Gainesville thoroughfare after the July 4 holiday.

The work is part of two projects that will together tackle a roughly four-mile stretch of Ga. 60/Queen City Parkway and the Ga. 53 Connector/John Morrow Parkway.

The milling and resurfacing work will run from near Interstate 985 to near McEver Road, where John Morrow Parkway becomes Dawsonville Highway.

Single lane closures for the work are scheduled to begin on Sunday, July 9, according to a GDOT media release.

Pittman Construction Company of Conyers is the contractor for the projects that total $2,207,487.

The state awarded the contract for the work in April. The scheduled completion date is March 31 of next year.
