Lawrenceville Police have charged the truck driver involved in an eight-vehicle pile up on Ga. 316 that killed a Winder woman and injured 17 others June 12.
Joseph Newson, 60, of Jackson is charged with vehicular homicide and following too closely, according to Lawrenceville Police. Both charges are misdemeanors.
Eva Jones Wilkerson, 62, was killed the wreck, which happened around 3:30 p.m. near Hi-Hope Road.
Newson was driving a truck and might not have stopped as traffic began stacking up, according to a report in the Gwinnett Daily Post.
Nine adults and eight children were also injured in the wreck — two critically.
Newson remained in the Gwinnett County Detention Center as of Thursday morning.
