Local and state authorities are investigating a recent commercial fire in Jackson County as a potential arson case, and are asking the public for any information that may be related to the case.

Jefferson Fire Chief Mark Duke says firefighters were called to Storey Lane near U.S. 129 around midnight on June 13th, and upon arrival found a cabinet shop that had burned to the ground.

"It was a total loss, and it was completely on the ground when we arrived on scene just a few short minutes after dispatch," he explained.

The nature of the fire, Duke said, has prompted Jefferson authorities and the Georgia Fire Marshal's Office to ask the public for any relevant information related to the case.

Duke said anyone with information is encouraged to call the state arson hotline toll-free at 1-800-282-5804.

"We're basically asking the public, if they may have been driving through there around the time of the fire, or if they know of anything, to give the Georgia Arson Hotline phone number a call," he continued.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered in the case.
