A woman from Alaska was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Ga. 400 in Lumpkin County.
Fairbanks resident Ruiz Anne Rozell, 80, died of injuries suffered in a collision that happened while she was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of 400 around 1:35 p.m., according to the Georgia State Patrol. The accident happened in the area of Lumpkin County Parkway and Whelchel Road roughly 8 miles south of Dahlonega.
"Troopers learned that a Toyota Prius was traveling west, and was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of S.R. [State Route] 400 from Lumpkin County Parkway," explained SFC Curtis W. Bradshaw, Jr., with the Cumming post of the State Patrol. "The Prius failed to yield to a Chevrolet Cavalier that was traveling north on SR 400 in the left travel lane."
Bradshaw identified the driver of the Cavalier as 22-year-old Allurora Bradley of Dahlonega. He said Bradley's oncoming vehicle struck the Prius' left side door.
"Both vehicles came to rest in the crossover at that intersection," he continued. "The driver of the Toyota Prius died at the scene from her injuries."
Both driver were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, and neither had any passengers in the vehicle.
Bradley was transported from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries; she was treated and released a short time later.
Traffic in the area was affected by the accident, although Bradshaw said the effects could have been much worse.
"There was minimal effect on the southbound traffic and no effect on the northbound traffic on SR 400," he said. "One southbound lane of SR 400 was shut down for about one and a half hours."
No charges are expected to be filed, and Bradshaw said drugs or alcohol were not believed to have played a role in the collision.
