SANDY CROSS -- Local and state officials have safely located a boy, 12, who went missing Thursday night in rural Franklin County.

"His parents talked to him last night and they believed he was just mad and would come home in the night," Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said Friday morning.

The Lee Arrendale State Prison K-9 Unit, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Georgia State Patrol assisted sheriff's deputies and volunteers from Sandy Cross Fire Department in the search for Matthew Jacob Turpin, Thomas said.

Thomas had asked for prayers for the child and his family during the search process.
