Sinise Foundation holds dedication ceremony for smart home for injured Marine

USMC Corporal Sean Adams (Ret.), seriously injured when an IED exploded while he was on patrol in Afghanistan in 2012, has a new place to live thanks to the Gary Sinise Foundation R.I.S.E. program. 

The new smart home, complete with an iPad control for all the mechanisms in the house, was dedicated in a special ceremony Friday at 10 a.m.

Adams, a graduate of Chestatee High School in Hall County, enlisted in the Marine Corps right out of high school. Months later he was critically injured in the IED blast, losing both of his legs above the knee, injuring his right and left hands as well as his right arm and losing partial vision in his left eye. 

Adams began his long recovery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

"The things that kept him pushing forward were his family, friends, his brothers overseas and his 1970 Chevelle SS (he loves American muscle cars)," read a press statement from the Sinise Foundation.

Adams was renting a house with his girlfriend when the Sinise Foundation found about him, learning that the house was not conducive to Adams' limited physical capabilities.

"[The] new specially adapted smart home will allow Sean to move forward with his life and focus on his ultimate goals: To have a muscle car garage, to help other wounded veterans with similar passions, and to one day raise a family," the Foundation said. 

Gary Sinise Foundation's R.I.S.E. program (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) builds specially-adapted smart homes for the nation's most severely wounded veterans.
