COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. — Despite remaining in seventh place, the No. 23-ranked Georgia men’s golf team lost ground in terms of strokes on Tuesday in the NCAA College Grove Regional at The Grove Club.

The Bulldogs fired a second-round 4-over 292 on Tuesday to move to 10-over 586 for the tournament. The lone way to advance to the NCAA Championships May 26-31 in Sugar Grove, Ill., is to finish fifth or higher in the 54-hole Regional. Kennesaw State is in the fifth position heading into the final round, 11 clear of the Bulldogs.

Vanderbilt holds the top spot at 12-under 564, followed by UCF, Clemson and Lipscomb, all at 4-under 572, and Kennesaw State at 1-under 575.

Senior Jaime Lopez Rivarola paced the Bulldogs on Tuesday as he fired a 1-under 71. Senior Greyson Sigg added an even-par 72, while freshman Trevor Phillips posted a 2-over 74, and sophomore Tye Waller and freshman Spencer Ralston each signed for a 3-over 75.

Sigg stands seventh individually at 3-under 141, seven shots behind Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb. Lopez Rivarola improved to 2-over 146, followed by Gainesville High graduate Ralston at 3-over 147, Waller at 9-over 153 and Phillips at 10-over 154.

The final round of the NCAA College Grove Regional will open for the Bulldogs on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Georgia will be paired with Middle Tennessee State and Missouri. Live results can be found at Golfstat.com.

“That’s why they make these tournaments three rounds and not two,” Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. “We’ve still got a chance tomorrow. We just need to make some putts and get some momentum on our side.”

“It’s going to take a lot of courage from all of us,” Lopez Rivarola said. “If we can get four good rounds, you never know how the leaders will react. It’s all about staying patient, especially in the wind, and trying our best.”
