FLOWERY BRANCH — Flowery Branch Athletic Director Jimmy Lawler announced Tuesday that girls soccer coach Katie Scali is stepping down after leading the girls’ program for the past 10 seasons, including a school-best semifinal appearance in Class AAAAA playoffs in the just-ended 2017 season.

“Katie has done a fantastic job with our girls’ soccer program, which culminated this season in a first-ever final four appearance in the GHSA state tournament. She leaves it in great shape for the future,” Lawler said.

Lawler stated that Scali resigned her positon to have more time for her young family.

During her 10 years in leading the Lady Falcons Scali posted a record 116-66-6 ties and advanced to the state tournament seven times, including three Sweet 16 appearances, one Elite Eight, and one Final Four. Scali also led the Lady Falcons to three region championships during her tenure.

In an email, Katie Scali expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and experiences.

“It has been an honor and a blessing to coach at Flowery Branch for the past 10 years," Scali said. "While the decision to step down was a tough one, I am grateful for administration, staff, players, and families who have been extremely supportive in my decision to dedicate more time to my family. I am looking forward to this next chapter, but will definitely miss being on the soccer field.”
